By actual performance the City has demonstrated that it receives and routes public information requests to departments or offices thought to have the applicable records but fails to follow up and ensure compliance with the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA) Government Code Chapter 552.

To most, it’s considered failing. Nebraska earned a D-plus grade this year in a national investigative news organization’s ‘State Integrity’ survey, which ranks states on criteria such as accountability of elected officials, public access to information and political financing. Still, enough states fared poorly in results released Monday for Nebraska to secure an eighth-place ranking, according to the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity, which conducted the survey. The center, which won a Pulitzer Prize for a different project in 2014, graded and ranked states in 13 categories using 245 specific measures. Each state’s “report card” was compiled by an experienced local journalist — in Nebraska’s case, former Journal Star reporter and current NET Radio host Dan Moser.

RENO, Nev. – It’s an all-day seminar designed to build a smarter city. This year the city is a sponsor of the Hack for Reno Summit scheduled for Saturday. “We’re going to present our open data portal,” Reno City Manager Andrew Clinger said. “It helps promote transparency. We’re looking to provide data to the public on basically our performance and looking at areas where we can improve.” He says providing data like crime statistics and building permit records could help spark new ideas within the development community. “Maybe they can take it and make it into a useful app, for example,” he said. “We have all kinds of data out there and this new portal that we’re working on will give better access to that data.

On Saturday, the Hack for Reno Summit spent the day discussing how the city can bridge technology and government in the area. In the past, Hack for Reno has been a weekend hackathon event, where apps were built to better engage the local community. Saturday’s summit was a bit different and instead brought together educators, designers and city officials, to talk about real problems that Reno is faced with. Andrew clinger, the City of Reno Manager, was one of more than a dozen speakers at the Hack for Reno Summit. He presented Reno’s new open data portal which provides an inside look as to what’s happening in the city. “They can go out and see crime statistics, they can see information on our budget, debt, building permits and that sort of thing,” says Clinger.

The latest annual report of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) shows some interesting trends in the economy. At the one end, box standard manufacturing and service sectors are witnessing a decline, whereas relatively smaller or unconventional sectors are witnessing an increase in corporations. We know that finance and banking, as well as communication sectors had started saturating in yesteryears and therefore no one was expecting sharp increases in total corporations within that sector. Likewise with cost of production on the rise, amid disease of doing business, sectors like engineering, leather and textile have seen negative to slow growth in the last few years.

Open data is entering a phase of consolidation and creation of services and policies for development, meaning it is increasingly being put to use to help people, a UK conference has heard. Conference participants agreed that open data is becoming more useful to policymakers after an initial stage of creating capacity and raising awareness. “Now it’s time to turn that information into services that can actually take hold,” said Liz Carolan, the head of the ODI’s global development work. “For example, we’re working with local partners in Burkina Faso to publish election results in real time during the upcoming election. Data is not the headline here, the headline is its impact on people’s lives.
