There are currently half-a-million open jobs in information technology fields in the United States, according to the White House, which notes that these jobs pay 50 percent more than the average private sector job. According to the Cowen Institute, there are more than 26,000 opportunity youth in New Orleans, a term that describes people age 16 to 24 who are either out of school or out of work. Operation Spark was created to fix both problems by teaching New Orleans’ at-risk youth to write code, preparing them for lucrative careers in the tech sector. The two-year-old nonprofit is now taking the next step toward achieving that goal.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has publicly released Hootenanny, a software toolkit designed to harness the power of crowdsourced mapping for geospatial big data analytics.  Posted on GitHub, the open source project provides a scalable processing engine and interactive editing interface to help users rapidly conflate, or reconcile, map features generated from satellite imagery, unmanned aerial vehicles and mobile devices, NGA said. “The commercialization of [geospatial-intelligence] is leading to exponential growth of publicly available geospatial information,” said Chris Rasmussen, NGA’s public software development lead.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, said that access to information and data is the right of citizens and not a privilege. He said this at a forum organised by the Global Initiative for Fiscal Transparency on the side line of the on going 3rd International Conference on Financing for Development. The theme is the Role of Data Standards and International Initiatives in Mobilizing and Monitoring Financing for Development Commitments, a news release issued by Mr Laolu Akande, his spokesman, said. According to Osinbajo, any institutional effort to deprive citizens of this right will constitute a serious impediment to good governance and development.

Swiftでは変数を定義するときのキーワードに、letとvarがあります。letとvarには次のような違いがあります。

キーワード 意味 例
let 一度定義した変数の内容を変更しない let hogestring=”変更不可”
var 一度定義した変数の内容を変更できる var hogestring=”変更可”

varだけあれば、用は足りると思われるかもしれません。

letが用意されている理由のひとつは、「ソースコードが読みやすくなるから」でしょう。

letで定義された変数は、「変更されないんだな」と一目でわかりますよね。

Last week concluded with a meeting of pharmacists from different African countries such as DRC, Ivory coast, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Nigeria for a symposium at University of Rwanda College of Economics and Business in Kigali. The Pharmaceutical International symposium that attracted undergraduate pharmacy students and medical practitioners resulted into a commitment to ensure strong cooperation as a way to enhance knowledge and skills sharing. Israel Bimpe, the president of Rwanda Pharmacy Student Association (RPSA), said such cooperation would facilitate joint advocacy for open access to research materials, open data, universal health coverage and access to essential medicines. He noted that the cooperation would also be the gateway of solutions for the country.

Three final year students of the Federal University of Technology Akure have created a Nigeria Open Data Access (NODA) portal, with the support of Connected Developmemt, Open Data For Development and School of Data. The NODA project was unveiled on Saturday at an event in Akure which was be graced by data experts including Seun Inigbinde of BudgIT,  Nkechi Nkwuone from the School of Data and Oludotun Babayemi from Connected Development. The Nigeria Open Data Access is a platform for making data in Nigeria available for Nigerians and the World, free of charge and without any restriction. The data will be available in the public domain and downloadable in Excel, XML and PDF formats.
