In spite of rapid urbanisation, the government today said that Delhi has the largest forest cover out of three metropolitan cities while the country’s green cover is over 23 per cent.As per the masterplan of the city provided by Urban Development Ministry, Delhi has 180 sq kms of green cover.The country’s financial capital Mumbai has the second largest forest cover while Chennai has the lowest green cover as per the government data. The data for Kolkata was not available.Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha that as per India State of Forest Report 2013, the total forest area of the country is 771,821 sq km which works out as 23.48 per cent of the total geographical area of the country.

The purpose of this article is to provide an update to an article I previously published covering three biotech companies with drug pipelines that target cancer stem cells (“CSCs”). In that article, I discussed how this group of stocks had missed out on the biotech sector’s strong 2014 performance and why I thought they would catch up in 2015. One of these CSC companies was Stemline Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:STML). As I mentioned in the previous article, the timing for potential catalysts in STML’s drug portfolio was not very clear to me based on the available information. I reached out to STML for clarification regarding the timelines of its various ongoing and anticipated trials for its two leading candidates: SL-401 and SL-701.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – U.S. stocks were poised for a flat open on Thursday in the wake of a mixed bag of economic data, after the Dow edged up to a new record a day earlier and the Nasdaq snapped a 10-session winning streak. Weekly jobless claims rose to 313,000 last week, above the 290,000 forecast and 283,000 in the previous week. Durable goods orders rose 2.8 percent in January, topping the 1.7 percent estimate. U.S. consumer prices in January fell 0.7 percent, their biggest drop since 2008, as gasoline prices tumbled. The data could provide ammunition to a cautious Federal Reserve to keep interest rates low a bit longer. “It all kind of neutralized itself,” said Randy Frederick, managing director of trading and derivatives for Charles Schwab in Austin, Texas.

As federal cloud provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) readies its commercial cloud service for the CIA, other vendors are lining up to supply the analytical and other tools needed to harness the enormous amounts of data to be stored and analyzed in the emerging spy and other federal clouds. Among them is new CIA partner Cloudera, which is promoting an enterprise data hub platform that seeks to add a layer of “pervasive analytics” via a unified framework and data formats along with security and administration. Pervasive analytics would be used by federal agencies like the CIA to drive data from analysts to decision makers, Mike Olson, Cloudera’s chief strategy officer, said at a company event in Tysons Corner, Va., this week.

An alliance of tech giants have collaborated to create Open Data Platform (ODP), an association designed to promote the Apache Hadoop database. Founders of the ODP initiative include IBM, Hortonworks, SAS, Capgemini, EMC and Splunk, and it will serve to endorse Big Data technologies coming from the Apache Hadoop ecosystem, which develops open source software for scalable distributed computing. Those companies will start by focusing on developing and using products based on core Apache Hadoop use cases, such as the storage and process of geolocation and social media data. By doing this, the ODP wants to build up a list of tested and approved technologies that customers can use without testing first.

Investors are preparing for a massive amount of Japanese data to hit screens just ahead of Tokyo’s opening bell. The January data should give a clear sense of how the world’s third largest economy is performing in the early days of 2015. At 7:30am in Hong Kong we get: And at 7:50am we also receive: Ahead of the action, Asian bourses are expected to trudge higher. Futures suggest Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 will rise another 0.5 per cent to the 15-year high it finished at on Thursday, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index is expected to rise 0.2 per cent. Sydney’s S&P/ASX 200, however, fell 0.2 per cent in the first minutes of trading. Woolworths is among the worst performers, falling 10 per cent.
