ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal on Friday said that vision 2025 focused on reoriented and repositioned human resources, deployment of new technologies, restructuring of institutions. “The objective of our reform agenda is to restore the credibility of our institutions in performance delivery through open and reliable data system and skilled professionals,” he said this while chairing the Certificate Award Ceremony of workshop on Evidence based Planning was held here in the Planning Commission. The minister stressed on transparency and accountability through citizen feedback, said a statement issued here.

In spite of rapid urbanisation, the government today said that has the largest forest cover out of three metropolitan cities while the country’s green cover is over 23 per cent. As per the masterplan of the city provided by Urban Development Ministry, Delhi has 180 sq kms of green cover. The country’s financial capital has the second largest forest cover while has the lowest green cover as per the government data. The data for was not available. Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said in a written reply in that as per State of Forest Report 2013, the total forest area of the country is 771,821 sq km which works out as 23.48 per cent of the total geographical area of the country.

The pivot mirrors a broader shift in the ecosystem that the most recent of the additions accelerates. The newly open-sourced Pulsar is a complex event processing (CEP) platform that the auction powerhouse created to analyze data streams moving too fast for its Hadoop cluster to handle. It’s a mishmash of existing technologies that has been tailored to provide internal teams with the ability to quickly act on changes in users’ activity patterns. At the core of the framework is a free execution engine from a little-known provider called EsperTech Inc.

A group of IT suppliers in the US has launched an “open data platform” association to boost big data technology. This comes at a time when big data analytics projects seem to be gaining ground in corporate IT. As an instance, big data analytics and management emerged as a stronger area of focus in the annual TechTarget/Computer Weekly IT Spending Priorities survey for 2015 than in 2014. 30% of respondents globally said they were undertaking big data initiatives in 2015, while the figure for Europe was 26%, and for the UK 21%. The global figure for the previous year was 17%.

Will the Open Data Platform (ODP) association bring harmony to the Big Data market or dive a wedge into it? Experts have been debating that point since the blockbuster announcement last week, with the consensus being that, at best, ODP has a long and difficult road ahead. The new consortium, which is led by Pivotal Software, Inc. and Hortonworks, Inc., says its goal is to provide a big data kernel in the form of a tested reference core of Apache Hadoop, plus related Apache open-source software like Apache Ambari. The ODP is backed by a roster of heavyweight names like General Electric Co. and IBM, but some key companies – most notably leading Hadoop pure-play Cloudera, Inc. – are refusing to throw their hats into the ring.
