The Peninsula Museum in Burlingame plans to offer a look at the use of an increasingly important new technology — 3D printing — in its major sprint exhibition, “3D Printing: The Radical Shift.” “Drawing from a multidisciplinary group of cutting-edge Bay Area artists, Radical Shift highlights the exciting intersection of fine art and new technology. Engaging in this exhibit, museum-goers will have the opportunity to see first-hand what happens when artists utilize three dimensional printers to create perfectly modern works of art,” explained a press release from the museum. 3D printing is being for many purposes in many places, producing such things as medical implants, dental braces and more.

Summary:The Victorian government has released the state’s public transport timetable data, allowing developers and the likes of Google Maps to be able to provide detailed public transport trip directions for the city. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced via Reddit on Monday afternoon the release of the state government’s public transport timetable data. The objective of the IAR is to facilitate the sharing of data across the NSW Government; it is a commitment in the NSW Government ICT Strategy. The IAR does not contain the actual datasets, only metadata in respect of datasets and other information assets. The register is not open to non-NSW Government employees, due to the sensitive nature of the information. The IAR does not contain datasets or links to datasets, only metadata. You must contact the person nominated by the custodian agency in order to discuss the access to the data. Each entry has contact information.

The GCC is making major strides in its development of smart cities with the number of new smart city greenfield developments in the region set to double within the next two to three years, a report said. This follows the launch of six entirely new, master-planned smart city developments in the GCC over the past decade, added the report Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) Middle East Predictions launched by Deloitte, a leader in audit, tax, consulting, and financial advisory services. Going forward, Monitor Deloitte strategy consultants expect the majority of new city sub-developments will incorporate at least some element of “smart” infrastructure.

THE MOST FROM THE COAST ! Ethiopia, with the support from the World Bank (WB) Group has launched open data on agriculture and socioeconomic wellbeing. In a continuing effort to improve data quality and accessibility, the Central Statistical Agency (CSA) on Wednesday publicly released data from the Ethiopia Socioeconomic Survey (ESS) , said WB statement on Thursday. The ESS is a nationally representative, household survey with information on agricultural practices and socioeconomic wellbeing of households. The launch event is a culmination of several years of collaboration between CSA and the Living Standards Measurement Study-Integrated Surveys on Agriculture (LSMS-ISA) team of the World Bank Group, said the statement.

Finding data can be challenging.  Organizations and government agencies can share their data with the public using ESRI’s ArcGIS Open Data, a centralized spatial data clearinghouse.  Since its inception last year, over 1,600 organizations have provided more than 22,000 open datasets to the public.  Open Data allows users to find and download data in different formats, including shapefiles, spreadsheets, and KML documents, as well as APIs (GeoJSON or Esri GeoServices) to call the data into your own application.  It also lets you create various types of charts. How to Find and Use Data Open Data allows consumers to type in a geographic area or a topic of interest in a single search box.
