The Civic Solutions Accelerator was developed in conjunction with the Guelph Lab, the City of Guelph’s civic innovation partnership with the University of Guelph. The Accelerator is being run by the City of Guelph in partnership with Innovation Guelph, the Guelph Chamber of Commerce, Canada’s Open Data Exchange ( CODX) and the U of G’s Centre for Business and Student Entrepreneurship (CBaSE). Preliminary data released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on July 1 shows a 7.7% rise in motor-vehicle traffic deaths last year. NHTSA said an estimated 35,200 people died in 2015, up from the 32,675 reported fatalities in 2014. The agency said that if these projections hold, fatalities will be at their highest level since 2008, when 37,423 fatalities were reported. Noting that preliminary data reported by the Federal Highway Administration shows that vehicle miles traveled (VMT) in 2015 increased by about 107.2 billion miles, or by about 3.5%, NHTSA said the fatality rate for 2015 increased to 1.12 fatalities per 100 million VMT. That’s up from 1.08 fatalities per 100 million VMT in 2014.

Windhoek –Investors, national policy makers, domestic and international stakeholders and rating agencies can now easily access vital macroeconomic data on Namibia with the click of a button on the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Dissemination Standards Bulletin Board (DSBB). Namibia implemented IMF’s Enhanced General Data Dissemination System (e-GDDS) on June 27, which will publish the country’s essential macroeconomic data that is critical for monitoring economic conditions and policies and make sure such information is simultaneously available to all users to bring greater data transparency.

The same government agency that forecast the worst drought since the 1990s this past summer is continuing to forecast average to above average rainfall in Canterbury this winter – the region currently is home to New Zealand’s longest ever running drought. Despite the historical drought NIWA predicted a month ago Canterbury’s rain will be “where it should be, or greater than it should be” this winter. But NIWA’s own soil moisture map disagrees with NIWA’s forecasts – showing the region remains well below average rainfall-wise: NIWA forecaster Chris Brandalino said in his June forecast for Canterbury “In other words, another way of looking at it, a drier than usual winter seems pretty unlikely”.
