Close up of a pile of books and an apple Purchase photo reprints » In order to meet the booming demand for data scientists across nearly every field, the University of Massachusetts Amherst announced Thursday the launch of a new center for data science. The university hopes to raise and spend $100 million and hire 40 new faculty members in the coming decade in support of the center, which will help coordinate the creation of data science concentrations for undergraduates and master’s degree students. The new hires will supplement the 40 faculty focused on data science already brought on board in the past five years.
