York-based businesses have now been given access to a huge database consisting of information about public and private sectors within the city. City of York Council has launched a new website that provides residents and businesses information about the city with an aim of  building new solutions to a range of challenges such as those around sustainability, transport, energy and community engagement. The new website, York Open Data, acts as a hub for businesses and organisations to publicly share their data so that anybody can connect to hundred’s of up-to-date, searchable data sets and use them to make a difference in their local area.

Many cities have a sustainability plan, but few have a dashboard to tally progress and keep tabs. On April 8, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti released a sustainability plan and performance dashboard that’s envisioned to secure the municipality’s limited resources. The city branded the 105-page booklet as “the pLAn” and attached it to a dashboard that tracks economic and environmental goals. Measurements heavily monitor water usage, a critical city challenge, and display imported water purchases, average per capita water usage, and the percentage of locally sourced water – currently at 15 percent and aimed to be 50 percent by 2035.

Syntasa, a Virginia-based marketing-analytics-as-a-service provider, announced that it has contracted with a federal agency to provide advanced analytics applications to isolate behavioral trends on government websites. The open data platform, built on Apache Hadoop, aims to improve service delivery through automated recommendations, which it compiles using segmentation algorithms and machine learning to gather users’ trend data. The goal is to deliver real-time decision-making information and predictive analytics to federal content managers, CIOs and data scientists. Syntasa officials told GCN the terms of the contract prevented them from specifying the federal client.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has signed a ride sharing bill that will allow for services like Uber and Lyft. The bill settles a local dispute between traditional taxi services and ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft. “This is one more simple but significant measure to promote innovation in Arizona,” said Governor Ducey in a statement on the signing. “Ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft are already booming businesses – rather than standing in the way of growth, we should be encouraging it. Those companies have been pushing for similar efforts across the US in order to make it easier for ride share drivers to take hails. The effort hasn’t always been easy and in some cases – like Uber’s ongoing disputes in the city of New York, things can get litigious.

It’s by far the most prestigious place he’s ever worked, but it looks more like a bootstrapping startup than a precinct of Washington power. His desk is tidy, and on top of his overflowing bookshelf sits a watchful Pokémon Pikachu doll, adding a touch of whimsy to the otherwise drab, government-issue office. Propped up against the wall is his bamboo longboard (a hybrid trickboard with a school of fish painted on the underbelly). The skateboard is more than just an emblem, a reminder of his days as a Silicon Valley technologist when he sometimes zipped across the campuses of LinkedIn and eBay.

Recently the Ukrainian government decided to open the curtains and let some light in on the internal data which circulates within the governmental agencies. On April 9, parliament gave approval with 279 votes to a law that grants free access to public information online in the form of open data. It will push government agencies to publish operational data, statistics and reports upon request. Data will have to be updated regularly and published on government websites and the national open data web platform at data.gov.ua. Access will be free, as well as for copying and distribution. The law doesn’t stipulate which categories of data that must be made public, however.

Hillary Clinton is going to launch her presidential campaign while on the way to Iowa on Sunday, Lauren Gambino reports for The Guardian. Here’s some more background on Stephanie Hannon, the Google vet who has been hired to be the Clinton campaign’s CTO, courtesy of Alex Howard. Los Angeles Information Technology Agency General Manager Steve Reneker has announced his resignation, to take effect on May 1, when he’ll return to his former role as CIO of Riverside County, Calif. News of his departure was made public by L.A. City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield who said Reneker would be returning to his home town of Riverside, Calif., where he previously served as county CIO from 1997 to 2003, and city CIO from 2005 to 2012. Blumenfield did not detail if or when Reneker would be replaced, however, and commended his pursuits in LA where he championed a number of IT initiatives. “I have worked closely with Steve Reneker to push Los Angeles into the 21st century,” Blumenfield said in a statement.

今日はD3.jsを使って六角形を描いてみます。

ゴリゴリと自分で六角形を描いてもよいですが、そこにあまり労力をかけたくないですよね。

そこで、プラグインhexbinを使ってみます。

こんなふうに４つの六角形を描きます。
