The Open Data Portal is the brainchild of president Koroma’s commitment to run an open, transparent and accountable government that is accessible to the general public. When the president introduced the Open Government Initiative in 2008, he appointed Madam Kadijah Sesay as Director. Kadija Sesay worked assiduously hard, trotting the globe, popularising the OGI, which has made it one of president Koroma’s most popular innovations. Few years after the launch of the OGI in Sierra Leone, the Obama administration established an elitist version of the organization for nations, the Open Government Partnership ( OGP), and set stringent requirements for membership to this organisation. One of these requirements is the passing of the Freedom of Information law.

Pointing to a recently released study, the government stated that more than two-thirds of its citizens had used some kind of open government portal in the past year in the hopes that doing so would have a “positive influence” on leaders’ effectiveness. According to the comparative study published by the Berlin-based D21 Initiative, 69% of Swiss citizens interviewed said they used electronic government – “e-government” – services in 2015, an 11% increase over 2012. Services studied included mobile access to government information and free access to public data. Switzerland showed the greatest increase in e-government service use of all the countries studied. Usage increased by 6% in Austria and by 5% in Sweden, while usage decreased in Germany.

2014 U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic used the age old combination to win his only career Grand Slam title—big serves and big forehands. Cilic’s challenge has always been how to harness all that power without making a lot of errors. En route to the U.S. Open title last year, he showed just how difficult that can be and just how dangerous his game is when he gains that level of control. In the first five rounds of the 2014 U.S. Open, Cilic hit 196 total winners and 200 total unforced errors. In his final two matches, Cilic hit 81 total winners and made just 50 unforced errors. He dropped his unforced error average from 40 per match to just 25 per match. Cilic proved that power can dominate at the U.S.

Tata Sons chairman emeritus Ratan Tata invested an unspecified amount in the US-based Infinite Analytics, a predictive data analytics firm from MIT, with sales operations in India, the company said on Monday. “We have received funding from Tata to expand our predictive analytics technology to verticals beyond retail and e-commerce,” the three-year-old analytics firm said in a statement from Boston. Existing investors like Nikhil Vora of Sixth Sense Ventures and new investors from Silicon Valley in the US and participated in the firm’s third round of funding. “It’s a dream come true to have Tata back us. We have grown up admiring and respecting his business acumen. This is a great opportunity for us to learn from him.

Berkeley, Calif., has officially launched its open data website,  an effort to make city information more accessible for citizens and to reduce the staff time devoted to extracting and formatting data. Started last December as part of a pilot program, the site was officially launched in early August and includes datasets that range from 311 requests, crime incidents, business license information and the city’s tree inventory to restaurant inspections, certified green businesses and utility consumption within city limits. The information can be filtered, manipulated and downloaded in a range of formats to facilitate mapping, data visualizations and additional analysis. The site also includes tutorials on how to access and use the data.
