Europe’s public sectors are sitting on a huge untapped resource of data, writes Paul MacDonnell in EurActiv. However, most European countries have yet to take this opportunity seriously. They should do so because data can transform how governments work and deliver services, can help citizens to hold legislators and public officials to account, and can allow innovators to develop services and solutions that bring widespread economic and social benefits. Most EU countries have signed on to the Open Government Declaration, a global open data initiative. This, however, is focused on transparency and overlooks the significant commercial and efficiency payoff that a broader and deeper commitment to open data could deliver for Europe.

The Louisville Metro Government in Kentucky started its open data efforts in 2011 with a homegrown Web portal, and is now automating the publishing processes and using the data for performance improvement. As it does so, Louisville is working with a handful of vendors specializing in open data catalog publishing. “We are at a crossroads,” said Jason Ballard, director of the Department of Information Technology. The department has partnered with a company called NuCivic, which is developing an open source platform called DKAN, and is working with Socrata, the open data publishing vendor, on performance management. “We may end up with a hybrid,” Ballard said, pointing to the expense of more mainstream platforms.

Pythonでメールクライアント(IMAP)でエラーになる原因

こんにちは。

Pythonでメールクライアントを作成し、実行すると以下のメッセージがでる場合があります。

imaplib.error: b'[ALERT] Please log in via your web browser: http://support.google.com/mail/accounts/bin/answer.py?answer=78754 (Failure)’

を見てみると、いろいろと原因がかかれていますが、この中で原因になるのが「安全性の低いアプリによるアカウントへのアクセス」です。

安全性の低いアプリがアカウントにアクセスするのを許可する

Google では、最新のセキュリティ標準に対応していないアプリや端末からのログイン操作をブロックする場合があります。このようなアプリや端末は不正使用される恐れが高くなるため、ブロックすることでアカウントの安全性を保つことができます。

たとえば次のようなアプリは、最新のセキュリティ標準に対応していません。
•iOS 6 以下を搭載する iPhone または iPad のメールアプリ
•Windows Phone 8.1 より前のメールアプリ
•一部のデスクトップ メール クライアント（Microsoft Outlook や Mozilla Thunderbird など）

GMailには、安全性の低いアプリのアクセスを制御する設定がありますので、こちらをオンにすればPythonで作成したメールクライアントからアクセスできるようになります。

Avnet has announced a pan-EMEA distribution agreement with Cumulus Networks to offer “the industry’s first true full-featured Linux OS for networks” to customers and partners. The agreement will drive innovation in open data centre networking, making software-defined networking (SDN) a reality, said Avnet. Avnet will offer Cumulus Networks’ data centre network operating system software, Cumulus Linux, which can be integrated with hardware from multiple leading switch vendors. “This flexible, robust approach to data centre networking significantly reduces costs and complexity, which is paramount in the data centre environment,” said Avnet.

On the heels of its introduction as a hot publlic company back in 2015, Hortonworks, which focuses on the open source Big Data platform Hadoop, has steadily expanded and adjusted the focus of its technology stack. Now it is serving up new adjustments. Hortonworks DataFlow (HDF), Hortonworks’ streaming data package, based on Apache NiFi, now includes Apache Storm and Apache Kafka. If you’re unfamiliar with Apache NiFi, it is built around Niagarafiles, which is software that the NSA created to aggregate sensor data on the right systems and generate analytics from the data. Onyara will give Hortonworks an important play as the Internet of Things shapes up. “Previously called “Niagara Files” at the National Security Agency (NSA), the project has been proven at scale in production.
