The book is the outcome of a collective effort involving many researchers of the Open Education Working Group and it includes five detailed and diverse case studies. These examples show the range of possibilities that exist within higher education to use open data from a variety of sources to help students develop relevant skills. These OER case studies aim to demonstrate the possibilities for improvement of both digital and data literacy skills, and the benefits for student engagement and participation in activities with real world relevance. They also highlight the challenges of using open data in education, from its complexity and flaws to resource implications.
