DETROIT, MI — Detroit police may consider opening up new data for public review and scrutiny, including possibly use-of-force complaints. Alexis Farmer is an intern for Data-Driven Detroit, a nonprofit that specializes in taking sometimes clunky or confusing data and processing it for easy consumption by the general public. Her last job was as a White House intern, where she worked with on the national Police Data Initiative, focused on opening new, usually-hidden police data sets to the general public. Twenty-one of the nation’s “leading” departments this past spring participated in the launch of the national data transparencyprogram, according to the White House. Farmer hopes her hometown department will join the ranks.
