Hortonworks, IBM and Pivotal have announced that they have aligned their Hadoop platforms on the Open Data Platform core of Apache Hadoop 2.6. The move is a big step for the ODP initiative as its proponents say they are looking to simplify the adoption of Apache Hadoop for the enterprise. The Hortonworks Data Platform 2.2, IBM Open Platform 4.0 and Pivotal 3.0 are all based on the common ODP core and are all available in the market today. This alignment should see that compatibility issues are alleviated, as well as easing the burden of testing and validation for customers.
