After weeks of rumors and pontification by pundits (including us here at: Pivotal CEO Hints At Big Shift In Their Hadoop Offerings) today Pivotal made their big announcement, which included a big move to a tighter relationship with Hortonworks. ZDNet was the first to break the story behind the announcement by Pivotal today with a post titled “Pivotal unveils Hadoop Open Data Platform, deepens Hortonworks links and open-sources code.” Building on the apparent success of its Cloud Foundry PaaS project, EMC and VMware spinoff Pivotal today unveiled backers for a new initiative, aimed at defining a core set of Apache technologies to speed adoption of Hadoop.
