The United Nations has launched a web page aggregating open data on the Ebola crisis from international organisations, governments and civil society groups. The page features an interactive map of the worst-affected areas, a graph of the number of cases and deaths since August, and the main figures for tracking responses to the outbreak. It also has 44 datasets for developers to build new tools. The Ebola crisis page is hosted on the UN’s humanitarian open data web site, Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX). Although open data sounds like a big project, the team behind the page has shown that you can start small. Work on the page started by simply linking to existing sites with relevant data, like OpenStreetMap and UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
