China has launched a plan to become a leader in the area of artificial intelligence, or AI, by 2030, the official newspaper People’s Daily reports. The plan, approved by the State Council, says production of AI-related technology should touch $US22 billion ($A28 billion) by 2020, rising to $US60 billion in 2025 and $US147 billion in 2030. This will place China “at par with leading powers in the technology and its application,” the report added.
