In an effort to increase transparency and accountability, the New Orleans Police Department will make more raw police data available to the public online. NOPD officials hope this will improve the department’s track record and build more trust within the community. The Police Department recently outlined new guidelines for releasing officer recordings. The body-worn camera program was launched in 2014. Every officer is equipped with a camera that records every interaction with people. With the effort to increase transparency, the Police Department has made calls for service data available through the city’s Open Data Portal. Calls for service include reports of gunfire, robberies, burglaries and other incidents that police officers are called to in New Orleans.
