A new property rental search engine that is being launched in North America aims to change the market by rating properties and landlords using public data. Founder, Yale Fox, has launched an open beta version of RentCheck in New York, and aims to expand it to San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas in the United States and Toronto and Vancouver in Canada. RentCheck provides searches for available properties, scores rental properties and landlords based on publicly-available data and lets renters post reviews. It says it aims to even out the power between tenant and landlord.

In its latest push into the healthcare industry, IBM is creating a new business unit to analyze and store data for the healthcare sector. Based in Boston, IBM’s Watson Health unit will aggregate health data from providers and devices to offer insights to healthcare companies like Johnson & Johnson and Metronic. Additionally, IBM is expanding its existing partnership with Apple. Originally, IBM would work with Apple to develop enterprise apps as part of the MobileFirst deal, but with Watson Health, IBM is also working with Apple on its health initiative.

If you haven’t yet heard of FHIR (pronounced – fire), an open data interoperability standard being developed by HL7, you will soon. FHIR — which stands for Fast Health Interoperability Resources — was among key components of the Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap released in January by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. FHIR specifications for querying a common clinical data set will be refined and piloted this year. The upshot? Healthcare organizations that use FHIR will eventually be able to communicate current data across disparate systems, fostering enhanced care collaboration.
