Madam Khadija Sesay, Director of the Open Government Initiative (OGI) has been appointed champion of the Right to Access Information in Sierra Leone. Her appointed came after the handing over of the Open Data Portal quite recently. The Portal according to Madam Sesay is a registry of all public information that could be accessed by members of the public. The Access to Information Champion told this medium that the Open Government Initiative is a government institution mandated to simplify government activities. She said the OGI is mandated to simplify, interpret and translate data in the information registry.

Only four players remaining in the women’s draw at the 2015 U.S. Open: Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Flavia Pennetta and Roberta Vinci. This city has, for a long time now, been grappling with a homeless crisis, confirmed not only by hysterics on the part of local tabloids, but by the mayor himself. And though homelessness has been on the rise for the last decade, it appears many if not most neighborhoods have seen an uptick this year, at least when it comes to reporting homeless persons to city authorities. Steven Melendez sifted through 311 calls from January 1st to August 31st in both 2014 and 2015, with logs covering both complaints about homeless encampments and reports of homeless individuals in need of assistance.

Louisville Metro Government is staying true to its promise to provide open data to the city for analysis, research and creative use. Jason Ballard, the city’s director of Metro Information Technology, has released the second annual Open Data Report, which reported that it added 49 new datasets online in the past year, a 69 percent increase. The Open Data Portal is a source of information for events like the National Day of Civic Hacking, during which people come together and use publicly released data to build apps and create solutions to improve their city and their city’s government. The Metro news release cites one of the event’s founders, Michael Schnuerle, as being someone who has made creative use of the data in the portal.

ODB++ is supported by all computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems sold over the past decade. The new version 8.1 of the ODB++ product model format provides a virtual documentation capability that translates all data files, drawings and documents from PCB design through the manufacturing flow. This open product model format eliminates the need to create and validate disparate documentation content by supporting all electronic design automation (EDA) tool flows. According to Mentor Graphics, users of the new ODB++ version will be able to share all the necessary manufacturing instructions as electronic data, which will make new product introduction (NPI) more efficient for all partners in the supply chain.

The Office of the Chief Information Officer at the University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) are collaborating for the first time to sponsor a Mobile Apps Contest. This contest will provide students from both schools a real-life opportunity to develop and apply coding skills to provide useful apps for the community. UNM and CNM faculty and staff will provide support to these coding efforts through fall meet-ups, assignment of mentors to applicants, and making development environments available in student labs. Students are invited to use any open data to create their apps, or take advantage of the vast amount of open data sets which UNM and the City of Albuquerque have made available. Competing teams will also be granted full access to Lynda.

Proof is seen in citizens outfitted in respirator masks, its opaque skylines and, more concretely, in recent sensor-based research estimating that the country’s pollution kills about 4,000 people each day — responsible for about 17 percent of all deaths in China.
