Access to open data helps make people’s lives easier, from using open GPS data that can find the best route to take to work, to tapping into open weather data to power the next mobile app. Education is no exception. Now, newly opened curriculum data promises to make the lives of K-12 teachers easier, through new tools that will help them align their classroom efforts to curriculum standards. But data alone won’t do the job. Educators need new applications, content, and learning activities built upon this data. That’s why D2L and Canada’s Open Data Exchange (ODX) are presenting the Think Data Driven Education — The ASN™ Open Data Challenge. This six-week contest challenges developers to innovate and create the best app that utilizes machine-readable K-12 curriculum data.
