Urban sprawl is a big concern for the city of Edmonton, one the city is now hoping to address. It is, though, by no means a new phenomenon, rather, it is a consequence of how the city has been developed since its earliest days. A local group has created a map that, it hopes, will shed light on how the city has grown and expanded outward. The map lets users see city growth in seven different time frames: prior to 1913, between 1914 and 1945, between 1946 and 1969, between 1970 and 1982, between 1983 and 1995, between 1996 and 2002 and between 2003 and 2016. These dates coincide with major construction and population booms in the city.
