Paul Maltby took to the stage at the government’s Sprint event last week to explain why ‘data-as-a-service’ it important the delivery of digital public services. Cleaning up and restructuring data is going to be critical to the success of Government-as-a-Platform – there’s no doubt about that. What’s the point in creating reusable platforms that are easy to tap in and out of if at the same time you are scrambling to suck in tonnes of messy data? It doesn’t make sense. Which is why the Government Digital Service has prioritised the creation of canonical data registers – the first of which will be a list of country names held by the FCO.
