In efforts to make data more accessible and actionable, the Department of Commerce launched its Commerce Data Usability Project (CDUP) to provide tutorials that show how users get more value from government data. For example, users can find tutorials demonstrating how the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Severe Weather Data Inventory can assess hail weather patterns, or how to access the National Institute of Standard and Technology’s security data to uncover vulnerability patterns. The tutorials provide contextual information for the data, graphs and maps that put the data to use, and include links to datasets and code base through resources like GitHub and ZIP files.
