Big Data is something that all agencies have, but few are really taking advantage of or sharing with the public. Across many government agencies and organizations, IT leaders are being pressed to get data out of silos and find better, more integrated ways to present the information to employees and open it to the American public. It should come as no surprise that when separated or closed, data is nowhere near as valuable as when it can be analyzed alongside similar data sets. Even more, data gains even greater significance when it can be contextualized and analyzed against other agency data sets. Open data is a growing industry and an idea that has taken hold in the public sector – including the U.S, Canada, and UK – that has been gaining momentum over the past several years.
