On 25 November 2014 Council endorsed an ‘open-by-default’ policy position supported by five Open Data Principles (DOC 38 KB). This allows simple access to machine-readable council-owned data under open licences. As part of the four-year Council Plan, the City of Melbourne has a dedicated goal and outcomes relating to “An accessible, transparent and responsive organisation”. Through increased public disclosure and access to information, the City of Melbourne is aiming to become one of the most transparent councils in Australia. Continuing to develop new ways to gather and share information to support innovations and developments which underpin the growth of the city is also the focus of our Knowledge City goal.
