Data director sets out three-stage approach to overhaul information management, noting Whitehall data infrastructure is “not in a good state” Government director of data Paul Maltby has set out the key challenges he believes Whitehall departments face in opening up and improving the quality of information provided to their staff, as well as the wider public and private sectors. Having been appointed to the data director role in September, Maltby said there was a “long and noble” tradition of using data in the public sector, noting that modelling and visualisation work stretched from the era of Florence Nightingale through to the present day.
