The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) and incubator Pollenizer have launched a new program intended to help boost the use of datasets made available by the government. Twenty applicants to the first DataStart program will be chosen to attend coaching workshops in Sydney to help flesh out their idea for an open-data-based startup. “Founders are being given freedom and support to creatively ‘mash-up’ information and discover new value we haven’t even thought of yet,” said Pollenizer partner Daniel Ringrose. “Founders can pursue their big vision without restrictions to comply with mandated themes or outcomes. Its founders, not the data, that will make this program succeed.” In January, teams will pitch their ideas to a panel of investors and government representatives.
