Why do organisations place so much trust in external data whose history they have little knowledge of? Richard Lee writes With the UK’s leading data summit, Data Leadership, returning on 26 November, it struck me after reviewing the agenda that we have now reached a point where there are many discrete and different forms of data being used across most enterprises on a regular basis. Much of this data now comes from outside the organisation – sources like open data, reference data and social media data – and is managed to varying SLAs and best practices with respect to quality, veracity and latency. This makes them extremely suspect at times, in my opinion.
