Last year University of Chicago rolled out Plenario, a platform that can tell the “story” of a neighborhood through data made available by the city. In just a click, users could see a map of red light tickets in River North or potholes reported in Lakeview. In a year since it started, Plenario has been tested out by researchers, cities, and citizens from San Francisco to Scotland. Now that data set is about to get a whole new layer. Over the next year or so, the Plenario team will add spatial data from new sources, including the Array of Things (AoT) sensor project (which will collect environmental data city-wide through nodes installed on streetlights), giving the open data platform extra dimensions.
