Those potholes you hit rumbling down city streets this winter, does the city ever get around to fixing them? You’re thinking of packing a lunch and taking the kids to a nearby park. Is it kid-friendly? What athletic fields and playground facilities can you find there? That tree across the street with the unusual leaves – what kind is it anyway? If those and other questions have you looking for answers, the city’s recently opened data portal, OpenEvanston.org may be for you. Officials launched the one-stop collaborative effort among city departments to “liberate city data, for easier consumption and use by the public,” said Luke Stowe, the city’s digital services coordinator, announcing the launch of the new portal at the Feb. 23 City Council meeting.
