If you want to make the world a more informed, “open” place, why not just go ahead and make a start by sharing what you know? Open source software, sharing data and inclusive government decision-making are all part of one big philosophy, explains visiting American “evangelist” Ben Balter. Balter said that if Kiwi workers want to spread the light about new ways of collaborating and sharing information within their organisations, the best way might be to start small. Speaking at the Open Source Open Society conference organised by a cluster of open source software companies in Wellington, Balter suggested people started with the smallest step they could think of.
