Detroit residents can now report abandoned vehicles, broken fire hydrants and other issues via a smartphone app. The software, called Improve Detroit, is designed to supplement complaints made to the city Ombudsperson and better communicate problems to city departments. Detroit Chief Information Officer Beth Niblock says data from the app will be available publicly. “We are actually putting the data that comes from Improve Data over onto the open data portal. You can actually see heat maps of reported problems, you can drill through, you can see when they were reported, and then you can go and see the closeout rates.” The city is also offering apps to track Detroit buses and provide information about the police department. Improve Detroit is now available for download.
