The city will spend $10.2 million for smart bus technology on all Edmonton Transit buses so they give real-time location information and stop announcements. Photograph by: John Lucas , Edmonton Journal EDMONTON – Edmonton’s live transit data are now available through a sleek, easy-to use third-party app, but not because the city chose to publish it. The Montreal-based company Transit App hacked the city’s system to scrape the data and started publishing it on their own app late last week. “We’re pretty excited to get the data out there,” said Jake Sion, the company’s business developer, hoping the stunt will push cities to prioritize making all of this kind of data available for anyone’s use.
