With the Victorian election just around the corner, the Australian Computer Society (ACS) has called on the major political parties to recognise the digital economy as the key driver of economic growth in the state. ACS Victoria chairman Michelle Beveridge says 550,000 Australians are employed in digital careers and the sector contributes more to GDP than mining. “Over many years the Victorian economy has been undergoing structural reform with a greater emphasis now needing to be placed on digital skills and knowledge,” she says. “Like our regional partners, we must recognise that the digital economy has become the key driver of the economy, and we need the Victorian government to support this vital growth area.
