Mayor Annise Parker has instituted an open data policy to allow Houstonians better access to city information. The city said enterprise data officer Jackie Smith and an advisory board will work with city departments to catalog data sets and establish standards for the city’s open-data portal, which hosts government information. “First and foremost, this is about increasing transparency,” said Mayor Parker in a release. “It is also about citizen engagement and increasing the pace of innovation in our City.
