MP Louise Upston wants to strengthen policy for making information more freely available to the public. The Government is considering whether to adopt the International Open Data Charter in a bid to make parliamentary operations more transparent. Ms Upston says there is a wealth of untapped information. “We see that Government data is owned by the people of New Zealand. We want to make sure that people who want to access it can, that it’s readily available and that more people are using it.” The charter, launched in 2015 has already been adopted by 17 other countries.
