This week Devex wraps up a monthlong conversation on data and data-driven development. We’ve heard from individuals working in the public, private and civil society sectors about the importance of collecting accurate data, the promise of new technology to leverage data that we collect, and the difficulties that face the global development community in order to know where aid dollars are best spent — and trace the results of those expenditures. Data is an especially important issue as the aid community attempts to hold countries accountable to meeting the 17 goals and 169 targets laid out in the Sustainable Development Goals. However, committing to open data is only one step that governments and NGOs can take toward transparency.
